Electric Dreams Statement - I Believe In Me

Electric Dreams is a collection which celebrates the imagery, colour and sounds of the 80's. This collection looks at the 80s pop palette, the lines, dynamics and contrast - a visual style popularised by early CAD and Patrick Nagel. Hand in hand with the visual is the sound. Synths and rock combine to give a sound which is modern. It was the era of MTV, the music video.

Electric Dreams is the title piece and explores the iconic cassette tape. Together with the personal stereo, it took the listener into their own personal world and helped sound track their life as they took their music where ever they went. The headphones, personal cassette player and cassette have since become icons of the 80s as they represent the tech and trends of the era.

Handcrafted from laser-cut acrylic, This is a detailed and intricate piece which uses minute pieces to create this striking graphic. A combination of acrylic and paint effects are used mimic the aesthetic of the era. This is a must have piece for any 80’s illustration fanatic. The addition of the headphone cable gives a new energy and the separate pieces all add the movement and illusion of music on the go.

In August 2020, I introduced a colourway called 'I Believe In Me'. The message of the colourway was positivity, acceptance, resilience and blazing through during difficult times. ‘I Believe In Me’ is about recognising that struggles are a natural part of life and in our darkest moments we can find growth, triumph, and beauty. I believe in everyone's power to achieve, especially when it feels impossible.

In times of difficulty, it's easy to get lost in self-doubt and question our abilities. Our thoughts can quickly spiral. ‘I Believe In Me’ is as a reminder that, no matter what dark beliefs may arise, the most important belief we can hold is the belief in ourselves.

Bravery isn’t the absence of fear; it’s the courage to experience fear and still achieve. Fear can be overwhelming, making it seem like it’s all that exists. But beyond fear lies something more powerful—self-belief.

‘I Believe In Me’ is an invitation to boldly believe in yourself, instead of believing in your fears. The most powerful voice you’ll ever hear is your own. It's where self-expression begins. When you express yourself authentically, you declare to the world, 'I Believe In Me’.
